The Family Man, The Doctor, The Friend
When Amanda Forbes took her son Jack to see Dr. Applebee she was at her wits' end. At 3 months old, Jack had begun waking every hour throughout the night. By the time he was 6 months, Amanda sought the help of Dr. Applebee. He explained that birthing trauma had caused Jack's neck vertebrae to move out of the correct position and this made it uncomfortable for him to lie down. Dr. Applebee's therapy put things right.
"He was so patient with all our questions," said Amanda. "He took the time to explain exactly how chiropractic therapy worked and how it could help our son and us finally find comfort and peace. Jack's sleeping habits improved dramatically. Our little man is a happier and healthier baby thanks to the care and concern of Dr. Applebee.” So what exactly is chiropractic medicine and how does it work? Dr. Applebee explained that it is a form of health care that encompasses overall body wellness. It focuses on correcting spinal problems that disrupt the nervous system and can cause symptoms including pregnancy discomfort and migraines. Chiropractors assess and treat a patient's muscular, nervous, and skeletal systems. They also explore how diet, exercise, environment, and heredity contribute to a patient's pain and injuries. Chiropractic care can have a significant effect on overall health without drugs or surgery. |
Dr. Applebee moved to his new location on Hospital Avenue in Danbury from New Fairfield in August. "I just needed more room," he explained. "Now I have space for the kids to run around. The open environment also means that patients can talk to each other more easily."
When children come in for treatment, Dr. Applebee demonstrates on their toys so that they fully understand the process. This approach also helps parents, too. Using a teddy bear, the doctor can show how just holding a baby correctly while changing a diaper could help bowel movements and ease lower back discomfort. Dr. Applebee works hard to make every visit to his office a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone. The large open space is relaxing and welcoming. Music plays in the background and a cheerful corner is a home to cozy sofas and a kids' activity center. The thoughtful attention to detail is everywhere, from the beautiful lighting covers painted with clouds and blue sky to the cuddly elephant that looks as though it's coming through the wall. Treatment can be given out in the main area, which is great for making kids feel relaxed, or in a smaller quieter office. |
Because of the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the children can run around and play, sharing their knowledge and experience with each other. "I feel blessed to be able to work with kids," Dr. Applebee says. "I even have some junior patients who have been referred to me by other kids!" Dr. Applebee's interest in helping kids stems from his own childhood experiences. He was personally under chiropractic care while his mother was pregnant with him, he recalled, "I grew up in a very holistic environment and I was inspired by a very healthy lifestyle to continue the family tradition." After qualifying as a family chiropractic physician, he went on to achieve a master's degree in clinical nutrition and is one of only 130 board-certified pediatric chiropractors in the world. Now, the third-generation chiropractor and father of two is busy healing and educating families. He says his goal is always to learn. "Every patient has something to teach you, especially kids. I wouldn't trade my patient base for anything. I feel like the luckiest person in the world." |
